Abstract. Extraction of copper from sufidic ores, either by pyrometallurgy or hydrometallurgy, has various limitations. In this study, a solvometallurgical process for the extraction of copper from sulfidic ore minerals (chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite and digenite) was developed by using an organic lixiviant (FeCl 3 as oxidizing agent and ethylene glycol (EG) as organic solvent).

In the extraction of copper from its sulphide ore, the metal is formed by the reduction of Cu 2 O with (i) FeS (ii) CO (iii) Cu 2 S (iv) SO 2 Ans. (iii) Solution. In the extraction of copper from its sulphide ore, the metal is formed by the reduction of Cu 2 O with Cu 2 S. This reaction completes with the process of autoreduction.

Besides copper and uranium, bioleaching technique is also used for extraction of other metals such as nickel, gold, silver, cobalt, molybdenum and antimony. It may be noted that removal of iron is desirable prior to the actual process of leaching for other metals.

Nov 30, 2019 · The electrolytic extraction of liquid copper at 1105°C from a molten sulfide electrolyte composed of 57 wt% BaS and 43 wt% Cu 2 S was investigated. DC cyclic voltammetry, Fourier transformed AC voltammetry, and galvanostatic electrolysis revealed that the electrodeposition of copper is possible in the selected molten sulfide electrolyte.

Silica (SiO2) is used in the processes of smelting of copper pyrite (CuFeS2) ore and in conversion of produced copper matte (refined copper sulfide) into a crude metal as a flux (purifying agent). It reacts with solid impurities, such as iron oxide, and forms a liquid slag with density, smaller than the copper .

Traditional methods. Copper is usually sourced from copperrich ores in two main methods; Copper can be smelted in a furnace by heating it with air to produce crude copper metal; for example, chalcocite is an ore of copper (I) sulfide, which reacts with oxygen to extract the copper: Cu 2 S (s) + O 2 (g) → 2Cu (s) + SO 2 (g) Copper ore can also be reacted with sulfuric acid to produce copper ...

Extraction of Metals. Extraction of Copper.. Copper is sometimes found as native metal.. Copper ores include copper(II) oxide and copper(II) sulfide. Copper(II) oxide can be reduced by reaction with carbon.. Some copper ores may contain only small amounts of copper. These are called low grade ores and have less than 1% copper but they are still used because copper is so valuable.
